AMC's forthcoming NASCAR drama series Thunder Road has cast Matt Barr in a series regular role, joining previously announced lead Dennis Quaid. The casting news matters as another step in assembling the ensemble for a high-profile scripted series produced in association with NASCAR, which is targeting a 2027 launch on AMC and AMC+.

Created by John Fusco, Thunder Road follows the fictional Whitlock family, a blue-collar stock car racing dynasty rooted in the Southern hill country. Quaid plays racing legend Duane Whitlock, "The Wrecking Ball", while Barr will portray his eldest son, Calvin, a former racer turned struggling bar owner. The cast also includes series regular Chase Stokes and recurring player Michael Rooker. Fusco executive produces alongside showrunner Taylor Elmore and others, with filming due to begin this summer. Barr's recent credits include The Pirate King, Hatfields & McCoys, Blood & Treasure and Walker: Independence.
