Marvel Officially Brings Back ‘Moon Knight’ Character After 4 Years
The second season of Marvel's acclaimed animated series X-Men '97 has continued a run of hidden connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the latest episode has revived a character last seen in the 2022 Disney Plus series Moon Knight. In the episode "The Rise of Apocalypse Part 2", one of the statues resurrected at the end of the instalment is identified as Khonshu, the moon god who granted Moon Knight his powers and used him as an emissary. The cameo matters to fans as further evidence that Marvel is gradually weaving its multiversal storytelling through the highly rated animated show.
X-Men '97 returned after a two-year hiatus with a three-episode premiere the previous week, and viewers were quick to spot other MCU links, including the return of Kang the Conqueror via Rama-Tut and the appearance of the Celestial Eson, who featured more prominently in Episode 4. The article notes this comes amid a busy period for Marvel, which has already released Disney Plus shows such as Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again, both renewed for further seasons. The studio's next cinema release is Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, which is expected to lead into Avengers: Doomsday, dated 18 December.
