Golden Globe Awards Earn First Live Variety Special Emmy Nomination Since 2020

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

The Golden Globe Awards has earned a nomination in the outstanding variety special (live) category at the 2026 Emmys, its first recognition in that category since 2020. The nod, for the 83rd edition of the ceremony, marks a notable return to prominence for a show that has weathered significant institutional upheaval in recent years.

The Globes are nominated alongside the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show starring Bad Bunny, the 68th Grammy Awards, the Oscars and the 78th Tony Awards. The nomination follows a turbulent period: the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, long criticised for its ethics, finances and lack of diversity after a 2021 Los Angeles Times exposé, sold the Globes in 2023 to Dick Clark Productions and Todd Boehly's Eldridge holding company. Elsewhere in the 2026 Emmy field, The Pitt led with 25 nominations and Hacks set a record for the most comedy series nods in a single year with 24. The 78th Emmy Awards will air live on 14 September on NBC and Peacock, hosted by Mariska Hargitay.
