Sheffield City Council is exploring construction of an earth embankment and flood reservoir within Endcliffe Park to manage extreme flooding events. The proposed above-ground flood storage system would temporarily retain water from the Porter Brook during the most severe storm conditions, protecting both facilities within the park and residential and commercial properties located downstream.

The investigation follows a history of flooding incidents where the Porter Brook has breached its banks multiple times in recent years, occasionally isolating key park features like the cafe. The council has erected temporary fencing to conduct feasibility studies through late July, with officials committing to maintain public access to the park's amenities including the cafe, playground, and parkour facilities whilst detailed design work progresses.
