Capcom Producer Remains Coy On A Potential ‘Super Street Fighter 6’ Update

Nintendo Life · 1 month ago

Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto has declined to confirm whether Capcom is planning a major "Super" or "Ultra" update for the fighting game, which is now more than three years old. Speaking to Respec, he stressed that Capcom always intended the game to be enjoyed for "at least 10 years", pointing to a healthy competitive scene and an influx of new, young players as reasons for confidence in reaching that milestone. The comments matter because historically Capcom has released enhanced editions of Street Fighter titles roughly two years after launch, so fans have been anticipating a similar refresh.

The article notes that Street Fighter IV received its "Super" update around two years after its arcade debut and Street Fighter V got its "Arcade Edition" just under two years after launch, both timeframes Street Fighter 6 has now exceeded. The author suggests Capcom may forgo separate SKUs entirely, instead sustaining the original release through ongoing downloadable content. On that front, the Year 4 character line-up continues with Yasmine in August, followed by Arjun (autumn 2026), Bosch (spring 2027) and Final Fantasy VII guest character Tifa (early 2027).
