‘Hope’ Trailer: Giant Alien Monsters, Crashing Spaceships and Wild Gun Battles Create Carnage in Neon’s Insane Korean Sci-Fi Action-Thriller
Neon has released the full trailer for "Hope," the new Korean sci-fi action-thriller from director Na Hong-jin ("The Wailing"), ahead of its US cinema release on 9 September. The trailer promises spectacle on a grand scale — enormous alien monsters, spaceships plunging from the sky and frenetic, over-the-top action — building on the buzz the 160-minute film generated when it premiered in a late-night Competition slot at Cannes earlier this year, where some observers were already calling it a cult classic.
Set in a sleepy South Korean fishing village, the film follows police outpost chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) as they investigate a mysterious creature causing havoc, while a group of local hunters, including Sung-ki (Zo In-sung), track the beast themselves. The ensemble cast also features Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. Produced by Na's Forged Films and Plus M Entertainment, the film opens in Korea on 15 July. Neon holds North American, UK and Australian rights, with Mubi taking several other territories, and Na has said he has already written a sequel script.
