Anthropic’s new Claude feature is quietly selling you on AI

TechCrunch · 1 month ago

Anthropic has launched "Reflect," a built-in Claude dashboard that lets users track and visualise how they use the AI chatbot, including the topics they discuss and the tasks they turn to it for. TechCrunch argues that beneath its analytics veneer, the feature's deeper purpose is to shape how people think about AI at a moment of growing public backlash, subtly reinforcing Claude as an indispensable, everyday productivity tool while presenting it as something that can be used mindfully.

Reflect periodically prompts reflective questions, such as what users might want to keep doing themselves even if Claude could do it faster, and offers quiet hours and break nudges that acknowledge the potentially addictive nature of chatbots. TechCrunch likens it to Google's 2012 Gmail Meter, but notes Reflect goes further by coaching users to use AI better — for example, suggesting Claude's Projects feature — which also deepens reliance and discourages switching to rivals. Anthropic says sensitive conversations appear only at a high level, health-linked chats are excluded, and insights data is not used for other purposes. The feature is in beta for Free, Pro and Max users with memory enabled, with a time-spent view to follow.
