Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced opens to 2 million sales on launch day

Eurogamer · 2 months ago

Ubisoft has reported that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a reworked version of the 2013 pirate-themed original, sold two million copies on its launch day, describing the debut as a "strong start". The disclosure is notable because Ubisoft rarely shares sales figures publicly, making direct comparisons with earlier Assassin's Creed titles or rivals difficult, so the decision to publicise these numbers signals the company's confidence in the release.

The game launched on 9 July and topped Twitch's rankings at release, while reaching a concurrent Steam peak of 99,451 players — said to be the highest ever recorded for an Assassin's Creed title on the platform. Set during the Golden Age of Piracy, it casts players as pirate captain Edward Kenway across the Caribbean and is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Ahead of launch it was already tracking to out-perform Assassin's Creed Shadows with roughly $14m in gross revenue, though its Steam page has seen debate, with some players praising the visuals and open world while others criticise the inclusion of cosmetic microtransactions in a single-player game.
