Warframe developer Digital Extremes is launching Fables & Frontiers, a tabletop-style minigame that serves as a "legally distinct" tribute to Dungeons & Dragons. This new feature resolves a narrative plot point from the 1999 expansion, where the character Amir expressed interest in playing this fantasy game. Players will access a dedicated campaign space in Höllvania Mall complete with maps, game pieces, and NPC interactions tied to the storyline.

The minigame functions as a text-based adventure delivered through K.I.M., the existing messaging system used for character relationship building. Development leadership at Digital Extremes framed the addition as reflecting the team's genuine passion for tabletop gaming rather than capitalizing on a trend. The feature arrives in August as part of Amir's Shockwave event, which introduces themed quests and new rewards via the Nightwave battle pass. The rollout coincides with acclaimed voice actor and Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer joining the game's cast as Brysko, a new detective-themed Warframe character in the upcoming Tau expansion.
