Twisted tales of 12 South Yorkshire sex offenders snared by paedophile hunters and undercover cops

The Star (Sheffield) · 2 months ago

A dozen men from South Yorkshire were prosecuted and imprisoned for attempting to solicit sexual contact with children online. Believing they were communicating with minors or parents willing to facilitate abuse, the offenders were in fact communicating with adults—police officers and volunteer members of paedophile hunter organisations—who had orchestrated the operations to identify and apprehend them.

Sheffiled Crown Court imposed custodial sentences ranging from one to ten years across twelve cases concluded between 2022 and 2026. Notable among the prosecutions was the reoffence of a previously convicted sex offender who had originally received a non-custodial sentence in 2017 despite placement on the sex offenders' register with internet restrictions.
