Baldur’s Gate 3’s Astarion gets an extra ending cutscene, made by a modder keen not to finish up on a rather awkward note
A Baldur’s Gate 3 modder has created an extra ending cutscene for Astarion to address what some players saw as an abrupt and emotionally unsatisfying conclusion to his “spawn” ending. In the base game, Astarion runs from the sun at the docks and, even in a romance, the player character does not follow him, which left some fans feeling the moment ended awkwardly. The mod matters because it shows how the game’s modding community is continuing to refine companion storylines in ways that respond directly to long-standing player frustrations.
The mod, called ‘Follow Astarion – New Endgame Cutscene’, was made by veteran modder HyperspaceTowel, who had already restored cut content to Larian’s RPG earlier in 2026. With it installed, a player who is in a relationship with Astarion and present on the docks can find him sheltering in the shade and share a silent hug, though it will not trigger if the chosen ending sends the player elsewhere. The mod also works alongside HyperspaceTowel’s earlier ‘Astarion Docks Narration Unlocked’ mod, and the article places it within a wider trend of Baldur’s Gate 3 modders expanding companion arcs without using AI-generated voice work.
- Mod adds a more emotional Astarion ending
