Pollock and Caluori target starting for England

BBC Sport · 2 months ago

Henry Pollock and Noah Caluori say they want to move from impact substitutes to starters for England after both impressed in the 73-8 win over Fiji on Saturday. Their performances matter because they underline England’s emerging depth and increase competition for places ahead of the side’s final summer match against Argentina.

Pollock, 21, scored a hat-trick after coming on in the 48th minute and said winning a starting place is now a major goal, despite fierce competition in the back row and having started only once in 12 Tests. Caluori, 19, made his debut from the bench, set up a Henry Slade try and scored himself; the Saracens wing, who finished joint top of the Premiership try-scoring charts, said he remains determined to keep climbing the pecking order. England face Argentina next, having won 15 of the teams’ 16 meetings, although the Pumas have won both previous matches played at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades.
