ICE said agents were monitoring an address linked to a person with a final removal order when a vehicle leaving the property "attempted to flee", prompting an officer to open fire, fearing for public safety. Maine's Attorney General said initial reports indicate the driver moved towards the officer before being shot, while Senator Angus King said DHS chief Markwayne Mullin initially said the man was a warrant target, then retracted this hours later. The Colombian Embassy confirmed the victim's nationality, and the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition said he was a 26-year-old authorised to work in the US who lived nearby with his wife and daughter; witnesses described hearing at least four gunshots and the man's family present at the scene.
