Phoebe Bridgers Plays Surprise Performance of ‘Lost Boys’ on ‘Fallon’

Rolling Stone · 2 months ago

Phoebe Bridgers made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her new song “Lost Boys” a month before the release of her third solo album, Lost Weekend. The performance matters because it adds momentum to one of her biggest releases since Punisher and highlights the carefully staged rollout around the album, which also includes unusual live shows and a major autumn tour. She was joined on stage by a band of young musicians, giving the TV performance a distinctive presentation.

“Lost Boys” was released in late June and was produced by Bridgers with Jack Antonoff, Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, with extra production from Alex G and backing vocals from her boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. Lost Weekend is due on 14 August through Dead Oceans, and the supporting tour begins on 15 September in Indianapolis; like her recent acoustic shows and her sold-out Madison Square Garden date in June, it will be completely phoneless. The song’s video features Bridgers at a Renaissance fair with actor Skyler Gisondo, while the tour artwork was photographed by Gregory Crewdson, who said the collaboration brought together their shared sense of mystery, loneliness and landscape.
