Fiona Apple has released a new song, “Horns of the Bull”, written as the theme for the Apple TV miniseries Lucky. The track is described as a brief, mood-setting piece that fits the series’ tone, and its release matters because it adds to a small run of recent new material from Apple after a long gap since her last album. It also highlights her continued involvement in soundtrack and collaborative work rather than a full studio album return.

The song runs for one minute and 40 seconds and was co-produced with Amy Aileen Wood, Apple’s drummer and the wife of Lucky showrunner Cassie Pappas. Lucky adapts Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel and stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a con woman pursued by FBI agents and a crime boss after a multimillion-dollar heist goes wrong. Pitchfork places the song alongside Apple’s recent work, including “Need It”, “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)”, a cover of “Heart of Gold”, and a guest performance with the Waterboys, while noting Apple has said she is still trying to make new music that responds properly to current events.
