Wired has reviewed the Hisense XR10, a high-end smart projector that uses RGB backlighting technology, a feature that has recently become popular in televisions and is now being applied to projectors. The device impressed reviewer John Brandon with vivid, brilliant colours and strong gaming performance, though its overall appeal depends heavily on the content being watched and it struggled in brighter rooms.

The XR10 offers 6,000 lumens of brightness, a native contrast ratio of 6,000:1, and an adjustable iris for controlling light. Weighing 23.4 pounds, it runs Hisense's own VIDAA OS and took just 10 minutes to set up, with automatic keystoning that mostly worked well. It uses liquid cooling to stay relatively quiet, has a surprisingly capable built-in speaker, and includes three HDMI ports, though only two support the faster HDMI 2.1 standard; the reviewer also reported issues with the eARC audio passthrough port when paired with an Onkyo AV receiver.
