Reservoir acquires catalogs of Latin music company Nacional, strikes JV to develop artists & songwriters
Reservoir Media has acquired the catalogue of independent label Nacional Records and its publishing arm, Canciones Nacionales, while also forming a joint venture with the label to sign and develop Latin music artists and songwriters. The move, announced on 16 July, deepens the Nasdaq-listed company's push into Latin music, one of the fastest-growing segments of the US recorded music market. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Nacional Records was founded in Los Angeles in 2005 by Tomas Cookman and counts artists including Bomba Estereo, Aterciopelados and Manu Chao among its roster, with a catalogue that has amassed more than 100 Grammy and Latin Grammy wins and nominations. The acquisition follows a string of recent Latin music moves by Reservoir, including a joint venture with TU Publishing in June and the 2023 purchase of Rudy Perez's catalogue; the US Latin music sector generated over $1 billion in wholesale recorded music revenue in 2025. Cookman, who also founded the Latin Alternative Music Conference and is a partner at Magnus Talent Agency, said the partnership would help expand Reservoir's footprint in Latin music and culture.
