US indie rock trio Perennial have released "Modernism," the title track from their forthcoming album, showcasing the band's signature blend of old-school rock 'n' roll energy and party-punk attitude. The song matters as a preview of the New England group's new record, offering an early sense of the album's direction and sound before its release later this year.

The track features vocalists Chelsey Hahn and Chad Jewitt trading rallying cries over a pogo-punk beat, with instruments shifting in and out of a deliberately minimal arrangement. Jewitt explained that the aim was to deconstruct the "fast garage rock" template, blending loud guitars with drum machine, mellotron and electric piano to create what he called a "technicolor punk thing." The album Modernism is set for release on 18 September via Ernest Jenning Record Co., and is currently available for pre-order.
