Hana Stretton – “Seagull Theory II” & “As It Was Before This”
British-Australian ambient folk artist Hana Stretton has released two new tracks, "Seagull Theory II" and "As It Was Before This", ahead of her forthcoming album *tiarn*. Stretton, known for blending samples, field recordings and original material, has drawn comparisons to artists such as Grouper and Claire Rousay and counts Phil Elverum among her admirers, having had her 2023 album *Soon* reissued on his P.W. Elverum & Sun label.
"Seagull Theory II" features percussion built from a homemade recording process, with Stretton describing how she initially mimicked group dance sounds using a plank of wood and five pairs of shoes before recruiting others, eventually amassing over 50 voices on the track. "As It Was Before This" is described as a more textured, atmospheric piece. Both songs follow two others shared last month and precede the release of *tiarn*, out on 7 August as a self-release with support from several smaller labels; the album is available for pre-order now.
