Slipknot are developing a new album with producer Matt Wallace, guitarist Jim Root has said. The collaboration suggests the band are pursuing a more spontaneous, band-led recording approach, with Root describing the emerging material as recognisably Slipknot yet unlike anything he has heard before.

Wallace has previously worked with artists including Faith No More, The Replacements and Maroon 5. Root said the group are writing by setting up in a church and improvising for around two hours at a time, with new drummer Eloy Casagrande and percussionist Clown helping identify promising song sections; Root also said the band have “so much material”.
