Prime Video recasts Kratos in God of War series after injury

Variety · 4 hours ago

Prime Video is recasting the lead role of Kratos in its upcoming "God of War" television adaptation after star Ryan Hurst was injured on set in June, Variety has confirmed. Hurst had been officially unveiled as Kratos in February and held a long-standing connection to the franchise, having previously voiced the Norse god Thor in the video game "God of War: Ragnarok". The setback is a significant blow for the high-profile series, forcing producers to find a new lead and reshoot scenes already filmed, though Prime Video has declined to comment on the circumstances of the injury.

A replacement actor has yet to be announced, and the Sony Pictures Television/Amazon MGM production now hopes to resume filming by mid-autumn once recast. The series, which has a two-season order at Amazon and is led by showrunner Ronald D. Moore, also stars Callum Vinson as Kratos's son Atreus, alongside Mandy Patinkin, Ed Skrein, Max Parker and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. It adapts the story of the two most recent "God of War" games, following Kratos and Atreus as they scatter the ashes of Faye, Kratos's late wife, while navigating the Norse pantheon.
