World Cup rings for winners as Trump attendance confirmed

BBC Sport · 1 month ago

Fifa will give World Cup winner’s rings to the Argentina or Spain squad after Sunday’s 2026 final at MetLife Stadium, marking an American-style addition to football’s biggest tournament. Donald Trump is expected to attend and present the trophy, drawing renewed attention to his controversial relationship with Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Thirty rings will be made for the champions, while 1,996 more will be sold to supporters; each features a miniature World Cup trophy and an engraved band. Trump has not attended any of the tournament’s 102 matches so far, and his intervention over the suspension of US striker Folarin Balogun’s red-card ban prompted criticism over the competition’s integrity; the USA later lost 4-1 to Belgium in the last 16.

  • World Cup winners will receive Fifa’s new commemorative rings.
  • Trump will attend and present the trophy.
  • His earlier intervention remains controversial.
