The Group Behind ‘2000 Mules’ Is Back With Another Election Conspiracy Film

Wired · 1 month ago

True the Vote, the election-denial group behind the discredited 2000 Mules film, is preparing another documentary that alleges widespread electoral fraud in predominantly Black communities. The film, reportedly titled Trapped, matters because it may revive unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 election as Donald Trump continues to cast doubt on future elections.

The documentary appears to draw on a 2024 Detroit lawsuit alleging false voter registrations and ballots, which was dismissed because of insufficient evidence and lack of standing. Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who is involved in the project, supplied 10 voter affidavits that WIRED could not independently verify and acknowledged he lacked evidence for broader claims; officials accused in the allegations did not respond, while True the Vote confirmed it was filming in Detroit.

  • True the Vote is making another election-fraud documentary.
  • Its Detroit-based allegations have already lacked supporting evidence.
  • The film targets claims involving Black voters and absentee ballots.
