Titus Welliver’s Post-‘Bosch’ Masterpiece Reigns Supreme Over Hollywood’s Biggest Stars
Titus Welliver, best known for playing the title role in Prime Video's crime drama Bosch across seven seasons plus its spin-offs Ballard and Bosch: Legacy, has scored a hit with his latest project after his signature franchise moves on without him. His new series debuted at number one on the MGM+ viewership chart, outperforming films starring several major Hollywood actors, a notable feat given the franchise is set to continue with a prequel, Bosch: Start of Watch, led by Cameron Monaghan rather than Welliver.
The new show, which also stars Oscar winner J.K. Simmons and is set in 1980s New York, follows two childhood friends whose paths diverge, with one becoming a criminal and the other a police officer. It topped the MGM+ chart above Ryan Gosling's Project Hail Mary (third place), Jason Statham's A Working Man (sixth) and Mark Wahlberg's Transformers: The Last Knight (ninth), all considered among the strongest box-office performers of their respective stars' careers.
In short
- Titus Welliver's new MGM+ series debuted at number one.
- It outperformed films starring Gosling, Statham and Wahlberg.
- Comes as the Bosch franchise moves on without Welliver.
Explained simply
Titus Welliver is best known for playing detective Harry Bosch in Prime Video's seven-season crime drama and its spin-offs Bosch: Legacy and Ballard. The role has been central to his career in recent years, establishing him as a major presence in prestige television.
The Bosch franchise continues with a prequel called Bosch: Start of Watch, which will feature a different lead actor. Welliver has moved on to a new project on MGM+, a series set in 1980s New York with Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons, about two childhood friends whose lives diverge as one becomes a criminal and the other a police officer.
Welliver anchored the Bosch franchise for several years, and now both he and the franchise are moving in different directions. The new series represents his first major leading role outside the universe that defined his recent career.
