Prime Video's live-action God of War series is recasting its lead role after star Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep during a stunt, an injury that could take up to a year to heal. Rather than pause production while Hurst recovers, Amazon has opted to replace him so filming can continue without significant delay, marking a major setback for one of the streamer's most anticipated adaptations.

Hurst had been cast as Kratos and was first revealed in a photo released by Amazon in February, when production officially began; he had previously voiced and performed motion capture for Thor in God of War: Ragnarök. Four full episodes had already been shot before the injury, and all of these will now need to be reshot once a new actor is cast in the role.
