Battlefield 6 will reintroduce naval warfare and revive a carrier-focused multiplayer mode as part of a Top Gun crossover. The update matters because it brings back a style of large-scale combat associated with earlier Battlefield games, combining vehicle battles, objective capture and possible infantry assaults on aircraft carriers.

Naval warfare arrives on 21 July with Tsuru Reef, described as the game’s largest map, alongside two boats and additional weapons. On 18 August, Season 4’s second phase will add an updated Wake Island, a Top Gun-inspired two-seat jet, and Carrier Strike, based on earlier Carrier Assault and Titan modes; its final design, including whether carrier boarding remains, has not been confirmed. A separate jets-only mode, Top Gun: Fighter Sweep, will also be available in Redsec and through jet-only Portal servers.
