Bethesda details what’s next for Fallout and its other franchises amid Xbox cuts
Microsoft's gaming division announced significant job cuts as part of an Xbox restructuring, prompting Bethesda to detail its upcoming slate. The publisher is advancing Fallout 5 whilst simultaneously developing remastered versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, with Obsidian Entertainment also creating its own Fallout title. Support for Fallout 76 will continue with a major prequel expansion expected next year, alongside new Fallout Shelter seasons and a television adaptation.
The Elder Scrolls VI represents Bethesda's primary development priority but remains at least two years away from release. Starfield will continue to receive content updates despite the structural changes. The reorganization resulted in significant workforce reductions across studios, including 213 positions cut at ZeniMax Online Studios, which retained approximately 40 percent of its early 2025 staff levels. Video game unions subsequently filed complaints regarding unfair labor practices and insufficient worker notice, whilst hundreds protested at studio locations.
