Mortal Kombat 2 HBO Max streaming release date announced

Polygon · 12 hours ago

Warner Bros. has confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 will begin streaming on HBO Max from 24 July, following its theatrical run earlier this year. Director Simon McQuoid described the move as the start of the film's "full life cycle" across streaming and home video, a period that could determine whether a third instalment goes ahead given the sequel's modest box office performance.

Mortal Kombat 2 opened in cinemas on 8 May with a $48 million domestic debut, eventually grossing $79.7 million domestically and $49.7 million internationally against a reported $80 million budget. It had already been released digitally on 9 June, with a physical 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release due on 28 July. The film, which stars Karl Urban, Hiroyuki Sanada and Lewis Tan among others, received mixed reviews from critics but a warmer reception from fans, who praised its action and faithfulness to the games, even as Polygon's own review called it "extremely forgettable".
