A month in the realm: roads, rails, nights and new things to do

TalkFuse · 1 day ago

The realm has had a monster month, so here is the roundup.

Newshaven grew up. The town got a full relayout with a modern city district, proper roads and a working railway. Roads are now real geometry in the world: they cast shadows, block your path, curve properly at corners, cut and fill the terrain they cross, and roundabout approaches even get UK-style zebra crossings. Trains run on editable lines with stations placed automatically along the routes, branch lines fork off real turnouts, and neither you nor the locals can wander through a moving carriage any more.

Bridges finally behave. Two roads reaching the same river now share one crossing instead of building two bridges ten metres apart, meanders get spanned by a single viaduct, and the arches underneath actually open up so water flows through them rather than into a solid lump.

Nights are worth staying up for. The night sky is now hard-pixel dithered in proper PS1 style with a visible Milky Way, and the stars no longer vanish behind a rogue blur. Photo mode is in, with the street lamps and local lights now rendering properly in your shots.

Things to actually do. The world grows things worth picking and the town has learnt to make things, there is a fishing rod and a river to use it on, the arcade is a real place now, there are beds to claim by the paddock gate, the market stall reads the papers and sets its rates, and Biscuit digs where the day’s riddle points. Ninety-one new 3D models arrived from licensed asset packs to fill the place out.

Quality of life: where you stood survives a refresh, indoors opens up like a dollhouse so the camera never fights the walls, trees and rocks get out of your sightline when they should, and you can now paste a fantasy league link anywhere to invite people straight in.

Come and wander round, and tell us what to build next.
