Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Disney's first PG-13 rated film, has surged back into Disney+'s top ten most-streamed movies in the US, some 13 years after its cinema release. The renewed interest coincides with growing excitement over a planned sixth instalment in the franchise, with speculation mounting that Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, though it remains unclear whether original co-stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will also return.

Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has previously suggested that a part for Depp's Sparrow may already be written into the new script. The renewed streaming popularity comes as Depp himself attempts a career comeback following his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, with upcoming roles in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol and the Marc Webb-directed thriller Day Drinker, the latter now set for release on 26 March 2027 after taking over a date vacated by Mel Gibson's postponed The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One.
