17 Best Movies New to Streaming in September: ‘Toy Story 5,’ ‘Backrooms,’ ’Scary Movie 6,’ ’The Mandalorian and Grogu’
Variety has published its monthly round-up of the best films newly available to stream, spotlighting several summer 2026 box-office hits now landing on streaming platforms in September as the fall movie season begins. The list matters for streaming subscribers because it brings some of the year's biggest theatrical successes, including animated blockbuster "Toy Story 5" and horror surprise "Backrooms," to home audiences, while also giving underperforming releases like "The Mandalorian and Grogu" a chance to find a bigger audience online.
Headline titles include "Toy Story 5," the year's third highest-grossing film with $1.13 billion, arriving on Disney+; A24's "Backrooms," which became the studio's highest-grossing release ever with $394 million worldwide, debuting on HBO Max; and "The Mandalorian and Grogu," which underwhelmed with an $81 million domestic opening and $345 million worldwide total, now streaming on Disney+. Also newly available are Paramount's "Scary Movie 6" ($231 million worldwide) on Paramount+, complete with an extended cut, and the DC adaptation "Supergirl," arriving on HBO Max on 10 September with an accompanying American Sign Language version.
