Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield, its 2023 sci-fi RPG, will receive a major new expansion of Starborn content in 2027, as part of a broader update on the studio's plans. The announcement comes after a year in which public attention had largely drifted towards other Bethesda projects, such as The Elder Scrolls 6 and the future of Fallout, suggesting the developer wants to reassure fans that Starfield remains a priority rather than a franchise being quietly wound down.

The update revealed that Starfield has now been played by more than 17 million people, who have together spent almost a billion hours in the game since launch. Bethesda said the game's third year of support will bring new stories, targeted gameplay improvements and further updates, building towards the eventual release of new Starborn content in 2027. Exact details of that content, including whether it will take the form of a full expansion, have not yet been disclosed.
