Tommy Cash, the younger brother of country music legend Johnny Cash, died on 13 September 2024 at the age of 84, marking two years since his passing on the anniversary noted in this retrospective. While never as famous as his elder sibling, Tommy carved out a substantial career of his own in country music, spanning several decades and including his own chart success.

Born in Dyess, Arkansas, in April 1940, Tommy Cash served in the US Army as an Armed Forces Radio DJ before pursuing music full-time. After a minor hit in 1966, he achieved his biggest success in 1969 with "Six White Horses", a tribute to John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr, which reached number four on the US country chart. He went on to notch further Top 40 country hits through the 1970s before his chart presence faded, though he continued recording into the early 2000s and later became a realtor in Tennessee.
