A 20-year-old man from Michigan died in an apparent lightning strike in Celebration, Florida, just days after moving there to begin the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World. Matthew Eric Jenkins was found unresponsive on a walking path behind a hotel on Tuesday evening, in an incident that underscores the sudden dangers of Florida's frequent summer storms, particularly for those unfamiliar with the region's weather patterns.

Deputies were called to the path in Celebration at around 6:25 p.m. after witnesses reported hearing a loud lightning strike nearby. Bystanders, including Felipe Costa and a woman who performed CPR, rushed to help Jenkins before paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at AdventHealth Celebration. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office said investigators are awaiting confirmation of the official cause of death from the medical examiner.
