2026 GOTY Contender Officially Sets Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date

Polygon ·

007 First Light will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 18 March 2027, after multiple delays left the release date uncertain. The date gives players a confirmed timeline for the James Bond origin story, which has been praised and is considered a contender for 2026’s Game of the Year.

IO Interactive says it will spend the coming months improving performance and optimisation for the Switch 2 version. The Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and includes gold gadgets and four Tacsim mission skins; pre-ordering grants early access to a GoldenEye Suit. An Amazon-exclusive Specialist Edition adds a Classic Tuxedo skin and comes on a game-key card. The game was originally planned for summer 2026 on Switch 2, after launching on other platforms in May, and its Expanded Operations add-on is now available.

007 First Light is a James Bond video game from IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series. It tells an original story about Bond’s early years, rather than adapting one specific film.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is Nintendo’s newer games console, and game makers can adapt their titles to run on it. IO Interactive has said it is using extra development time to improve how this version performs. The game is also planned for other platforms, and its Expanded Operations add-on provides additional content.

The release matters to Switch 2 players interested in a new Bond story, as the date sets out when they can expect to play it. Different editions offer additional in-game outfits and gadgets, while the Specialist Edition is sold through Amazon and uses a game-key card.
