25 Years Later, ‘Harry Potter’ Is Heading Back to Hogwarts in a Major Way Ahead of HBO Reboot
Harry Potter is set for a major revival this September with a "Back to Hogwarts" celebration, timed ahead of the franchise's HBO reboot due in December. Despite ongoing controversy surrounding author J.K. Rowling and reported production difficulties, Warner Bros. is pressing ahead with a wide-ranging promotional push spanning social media, cinemas, theme parks and retail, aiming to reintroduce Harry Potter as an ongoing cultural phenomenon rather than simply advertising a new television series.
From 1 September 2026, the official Harry Potter YouTube and TikTok channels will host a "Back to Hogwarts Showcase" featuring new announcements, alongside events at HBO Max in London, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, Harry Potter shops in Chicago and New York, and Universal Studios theme parks in the US. The centrepiece is the theatrical re-release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the US) to mark its 25th anniversary, kicking off a week-long cinema re-release of the entire original film series, in what is seen as a deliberate effort to reignite interest among the generation who grew up watching Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter.
