– "The Sound of Goodbye" by Crystal Gayle (1983), written by Hugh Prestwood, reached No. 1 on the country charts and the Top 10 on pop radio, featuring on her album Cage The Songbird.
– "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" by Willie Nelson, written solely by him, appeared on the Honeysuckle Rose soundtrack and deals with loss in deliberately ambiguous terms, which Nelson says listeners have applied to many different personal situations.
– "I Told You So" by Randy Travis, from his Always & Forever album, is a self-written song about the regret of causing a breakup and later wishing for reconciliation.
