4 Penny Coffins Lets You Play 19th-Century Detective – Or a 10-Foot Demon Ripping Friends in Half

Other Ocean Interactive has revealed new details of 4 Penny Coffins, a social deduction game that transplants the "Among Us" formula into Victorian London, casting one of up to eight players as a demonic version of Jack the Ripper. Speaking to IGN ahead of the game's gameplay teaser debuting at gamescom 2026, marketing manager Jared Petty described the title as blending horror with Tim Schafer-style comedy, aiming to let players laugh rather than scream while hunting a hidden killer among their friends.

The game's main multiplayer mode, "Ripper", is class-based: seven players use forensic tools such as fingerprint and blood-splatter analysis to identify the murderer before they strike again, while the eighth secretly plays the Ripper, periodically transforming into a 10-foot demon to kill other players. A solo "Magistrate" mode instead has players interrogating a jailed group of suspects within a time limit, working out who the Ripper is and facing penalties for wrong accusations, with three chances allowed before failure. Visually, the game is styled as monochrome "old woodcut" and grainy period photography that turns red and violent during kills, an approach Petty likens to the graphic novel From Hell, and set in a stylised 1888 Whitechapel.

  • 4 Penny Coffins mixes Among Us-style deduction with a Jack the Ripper theme.
  • Multiplayer "Ripper" mode has one hidden player turning into a killer demon.
  • Solo "Magistrate" mode has players interrogating suspects to find the Ripper.
