American Songwriter has highlighted four songs by the classic rock band Styx that it argues remain as impressive today as when they were first released. The feature marks the enduring appeal of the group's catalogue, tracing hits that span the band's rise from opening act to headliners across the 1970s and early 1980s.

The four tracks featured are "Lady" (1973), the band's first Top 10 hit from the Styx II album, written by Dennis DeYoung; "Come Sail Away" (1977) from The Grand Illusion, also written by DeYoung and reportedly inspired by the band's ambition to headline shows; "Babe" (1979) from Cornerstone, co-written by DeYoung with John and Chuck Panozzo, and Styx's only US number one single; and "Too Much Time on My Hands" (1981) from Paradise Theatre, written solely by Tommy Shaw.
