40 percent report buying less produce amid cyclospora outbreak: Poll
A CBS News/YouGov poll found that 40 per cent of US adults are buying or eating less fresh produce during the Cyclospora outbreak. The finding indicates that the outbreak is affecting everyday consumer behaviour, while public confidence in the Food and Drug Administration’s response is mixed and varies by political affiliation.
Women and older people were more likely to say they had reduced their produce consumption, as were people closely following the news. The survey of 2,193 adults was conducted on 22–24 July, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 points; separately, federal investigators have linked an outbreak involving 1,947 illnesses and 98 hospitalisations to recalled iceberg lettuce, with no reported deaths.
