$950M in shady billing, aides ‘like homeless people’ at NJ senior care company: sources
A New Jersey medical group’s care businesses billed Medicaid about $950 million for home care and adult day services, according to an investigation based on federal spending data. The reported totals and unusually high patient counts have prompted questions from a former fraud investigator, but the companies have not been accused of wrongdoing.
From 2018 to 2024, Broadway Respite and Home Care in Fair Lawn billed $157 million for 89,000 unique patients, while its affiliated adult day care billed $40 million for 28,000 patients. Two related Brooklyn home care entities billed $396 million over the same period. The Fair Lawn businesses each used a single billing code across more than two million claims; a former client and her children also alleged poor care by one Brooklyn agency, which did not respond to the claims.
In short
- Honor Health Network businesses billed Medicaid about $950 million.
- Fair Lawn operations reported unusually high patient totals.
- The companies have not been accused of wrongdoing.
