HBO Max will add the 2007 horror anthology Trick ’r Treat to its streaming catalogue on 1 October, ahead of Halloween. The film’s return is significant because it has become a cult classic and a widely praised celebration of Halloween traditions, anchored by its iconic mascot, Sam.

Directed by Michael Dougherty, the film tells four interconnected stories involving partygoers, school-bus drivers and a murderous principal, with a cast including Brian Cox, Anna Paquin and Dylan Baker. Although fans have long wanted a sequel, progress has been slow; Dougherty confirmed in 2024 that he had completed the script and that storyboarding was finished, while a related graphic novel expanded the film’s mythology.
