Although Steam's refund policy typically only covers purchases made within two weeks and under two hours of playtime, this case shows exceptions can be granted when a publisher significantly alters a game after launch, raising questions about developer accountability when content players relied on is later stripped out.

The player, posting on Reddit, explained they had already been frustrated when EA removed the King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch modes, but the axing of Rush—the mode they had played the most—was the final straw. They cited the game's own website, which still advertised the removed modes, as evidence when contacting Steam support, and an agent reportedly agreed the situation was unfair. The player received a refund of around £80/$100 for their Phantom Edition copy, purchased at launch. EA has removed several modes from Battlefield 6 since its release nearly a year ago, apparently in an effort to address matchmaking problems.
