A Classic Ghost Recon Game Is Free for PC Players This Week
Ubisoft is marking the 25th anniversary of its Ghost Recon series by giving PC players a free copy of the 2012 tactical shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which they can keep permanently. The giveaway forms part of a wider anniversary promotion that also includes discounts of up to 95% across the franchise and temporary free-play periods for newer titles, aimed at drawing renewed attention to the series and its upcoming next instalment.
Future Soldier can be claimed for free on Ubisoft Connect until 13 August, unlike the time-limited free weekends for Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint, which end on 10 August. Originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in May 2012, the game introduced near-future military tech such as optical camouflage and the Sync Shot mechanic across a campaign spanning six countries, and holds a Metacritic score of 79. Separately, during the anniversary stream Ubisoft confirmed for the first time that a new Ghost Recon game, reportedly codenamed Project OVR, is in development, with a new Insider Program letting players sign up for future closed tests ahead of what would be the franchise's first brand-new entry since 2019's Breakpoint.
