Melbourne cookie firm threatens action over viral review as founders report abuse
Melbourne cookie business The Cookiee Club became embroiled in an online dispute after threatening legal action over a TikTok review that gave it 8.5 out of 10. Reviewer Alyssa praised the cookies but criticised the ordering process, saying her order took almost a month and communication was poor; her video gained more than 1.3 million views.
Alyssa says the company asked her to remove the video within 24 hours and later warned that it might pursue legal action over allegedly defamatory content. The business’s founder, 18-year-old Ruby Rose Demiroski, said no one was suing over a review, but claimed the backlash had led to attacks and threats against the business and its founders. The company was founded by Demiroski and her sister Rachel Gundry, and sells egg- and nut-free cookies for $43.95 a box.
