A Hawk And A Hacksaw Announce New Album ‘Volume 8’
A Hawk And A Hacksaw have announced *Volume 8*, their first album in nine years, due on 5 February via Rocket Recordings. The return also points to renewed touring plans, as Jeremy Barnes says events in 2026 prompted the duo to document their work more formally and go on the road.
Barnes formed the project in 2002, with Heather Trost joining in 2004; the pair later focused on solo and collaborative work. The new record draws on folk songs from Turkey and the legacy of the Ottoman Empire, while Trost says events in Ukraine, Palestine and Iran influenced their decision to express themselves through music. New track “Gayda” is available now, and Barnes describes its traditional songs as ancient, with cultural origins variously identified as Kurdish, Turkish or Armenian.
In short
- A Hawk And A Hacksaw return with their first album in nine years.
- *Volume 8* is due on 5 February via Rocket Recordings.
- New single “Gayda” draws on ancient regional folk traditions.
Explained simply
A Hawk And A Hacksaw is a music project formed by American musician Jeremy Barnes in 2002. Violinist Heather Trost joined in 2004, and the two have since made music together as a duo while also pursuing other work.
Their recordings draw on folk traditions from south-eastern Europe and nearby regions, including music shaped by the Ottoman Empire. That history links communities across present-day borders, and the songs can have origins that are understood differently by Kurdish, Turkish and Armenian listeners. The project’s return connects this musical interest with the members’ response to events in the region and beyond.
