Showrunner Ira Parker says filming the second season of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been markedly more difficult than the first, largely because severe flooding disrupted production in Spain’s Canary Islands. The weather delays matter because the six-episode season, adapting George R.R. Martin’s drought-set novella The Sworn Sword, has faced repeated hiatuses and an extended schedule despite being close to completion.

Parker said the production moved from Northern Ireland to Spain to find a hot, dry setting, only for the chosen location to experience a once-in-a-century storm, flooding and national emergencies. With three weeks of filming still remaining, he said the cast leads Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell are more experienced than in season one, while episodes are still planned to run at roughly 35 minutes; the first season has received nine Emmy nominations, including outstanding drama series.
