An inquest hearing in Bournemouth was told that the family of Asos co-founder Quentin Griffiths may never learn why he fell to his death from the 17th floor of a Thailand apartment block. Dorset Coroner Rachael Griffin said she had received only a translated police report and post-mortem report from Thai authorities, and that evidence so far suggested Mr Griffiths was alone in his flat when he fell, though it remained unclear whether the fall was deliberate or accidental. She said she would keep pressing the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for further information but warned the family that many questions were likely to remain unanswered.

Griffiths, 58, died on 9 February after falling from the Elysium Residences in Pattaya's Nong Prue subdistrict. He had co-founded As Seen On Screen, later shortened to Asos, in 2000, before selling much of his stake in 2010 and moving abroad. Thai police believe he took his own life, citing a flat locked from the inside, no signs of a struggle and no one seen entering or leaving, and detectives noted he had been drinking daily and behaving erratically beforehand; however, reports have also emerged that he was overheard in an angry phone argument shortly before he fell, and that he had been facing possible imprisonment for fraud and forgery linked to a dispute with his estranged wife, Ploy Kringsinthanakun, who denies any involvement in his death.
