Seattle held a candlelight vigil on Monday for three people killed in a gun battle at the Bite of Seattle food festival the previous day, as the city's mayor and thousands of residents mourned the victims. The shooting, which also injured at least four other people, took place on the final day of the free three-day festival, which typically draws around 350,000 visitors, prompting condemnation from local and state officials over gun violence.

The three who died were named as Junior Cee Niko Semo, 19, Carlos Israel Sanchez Villalba, 44, and Ashley Whitehead, 56, with police saying Semo was suspected of involvement in the gunfight while the other two were not linked to any crime. Whitehead was reportedly queuing for cotton candy with her daughter when she was shot, while Villalba was remembered by family as a devoted husband and father of three; online fundraisers for both have drawn tens of thousands of dollars in donations. Investigators, who described the shooting as a "targeted" act of gang violence, have recovered three weapons, including a "ghost gun" with an extended magazine, and are seeking further suspects, including a 15-year-old already in custody.
