A Metal Gear Solid mod finally lets us play as Grey Fox in the PS1 classic, and it’s not just his disappointing VR Missions iteration
A modder known as Perfect Pizza has unveiled a completed mod that makes Grey Fox, one of the Metal Gear series' most popular characters, fully playable in the original PlayStation Metal Gear Solid. The character, introduced as the series' first Cyborg Ninja, has been a fan-requested addition to the game despite limited opportunities to play as characters other than the main protagonists across the franchise's history.
Grey Fox's legacy includes appearances in the MSX2 originals and a notable role as an antagonist in Metal Gear Solid 1, though he gained only limited playability during a handful of missions in the spinoff Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. The release of this fully-featured mod addresses a long-standing request from the fanbase, particularly as Hideo Kojima's vision for a Grey Fox-focused game sequel never came to fruition.
